Guthrie High School students are seeing their hard work come to fruition as the school’s maintenance department finished the final touches of a new playground for the Special Jays on Monday.
During a 2011 United Week fundraising campaign, students raised majority of the money so students with special needs could enjoy outside physical activity.
The designated area sits to the east of the building (behind the gymnasium) and is surrounded by a black fence.
Among the items on the playground is a slide and swing. The ground is protected with wood chips.
Teacher and United Week organizer Jordan Hodge says they hope to add additional items to the area, including a structure that would provide shade for the students.
