On Sunday, April 17, the New Hope Missionary Baptist in Langston will host its 3rd annual Sunday School Scholarship Program. The program will celebrate the spiritual growth and biblical academic achievements of the youth department of the Sunday School. This year the service will be held at 3 p.m. following the 11a.m. worship service and dinner at the church.
Special guests for the afternoon service will be the recently appointed Chairs of the Religious Affairs Committee for the Oklahoma State NAACP, Pastor David Lee, DDiv., and Minister Pamela William Lee. New Hope welcomes the participation of these ministers as they address the theme: “We Have a Plan; We Have Started a Good Work.”
Following the awarding of scholarships, awards and trophies, Pastor and Rev. Lee will deliver their message. Their combined educational and work experiences are excellent examples that will inspire and inform the young Christians about their future endeavors. Rev. (Mrs.) Lee received her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma City University and her Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, College of Public Health.
Dr. David Lee received his bachelors and master’s degrees from the University of California at Sacramento, and holds the Doctorate of Divinity from Fresno State University. Between the two speakers they have engaged in careers including public information officer, broadcasting writer/producer, affirmative action officer, public relations, State Faith Based liaison, health educator, nurse, and small business owner, besides their roles and work in Christian Ministry.
The students in the upper level of the New Hope Youth Sunday School are currently participants in the “My Debt Free College Degree” program initiated by Associate Minister and Youth Sunday School Teacher,
Rev. Anna Bush. In order for the youth to raise the bar for their future personal lifetime achievements, they are being exposed to personalities with advance degrees and diverse occupational backgrounds. The group is also starting the process of researching scholarships and other funding sources for their upcoming college commitments.
Following on the motto of the event, “Train up a child in the way he should go. . .” Proverbs 22:6, Pastor and Rev Lee will serve as outstanding Christian role models for the students to follow; encouraging them to be academically solid students and devoted bible scholars at the same time. The general public is welcome to take part in this awards and worship service.
