The Guthrie Junior High football season kicked off on Monday night inside Jelsma Stadium with the Bluejays hosting Enid on a muggy evening. The night ended in a split of the two programs.
The Guthrie eighth grade football team was highlighted by talented quarterback Kaiden Stevenson, who scored four touchdowns and pick up a late game interception to secure a 34-24 win.
Enid started quickly on their first drive with a 35-yard touchdown pass and a successful two-point conversion to give them an 8-0 lead just 1:12 into the game.
However, Guthrie rattled off the next 22 points on the scoreboard.
Following and Enid fumble, Guthrie needed six plays to score. Stevenson scampered in for a 12-yard run and turned around and ran in the two-point conversion to tie the game 8-8.
In the second quarter, running back Josh Rains scored from 5-yards out to give Guthrie the lead for the remainder of the night.
Just before the half ended, Stevenson was untouched for a 3-yard touchdown, but the score was setup with a nice pass and catch from Stevenson to Zane Haynes for 26 yards on a third down and 20 play.

With Guthrie trailing 28-0 in the fourth quarter, the Jays got on the scoreboard when quarterback Josh Ricardo took off on the right side of the line of scrimmage for a 56-yard touchdown run.
