Stolen tire leads to thank you notes and donuts for GPD, business owner

A five-year-old class at First Christian Church Mother’s Day Out took off on their field trip on Thursday. It appeared the trip may have been canceled after thieves took a tire from the church’s van on Tuesday morning. Thanks to the quick work of the Guthrie Police Department and a business owner they were off for a day of fun, but before departing they showed their appreciation with thank you notes and donuts.

The Guthrie Police Department recovered five stolen vehicles and those alleged to have taken them from Short’s Service Center and Gordon Kemp Auto Sales on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

One of the stolen vehicles was found with a spare tire holding the rear of the vehicle up after the vehicle had a blow out. That spare tire was stolen off the church van earlier that morning.

Lt. Dexter Pugh and Sgt. Jeremy Thorne located the stolen tire within minutes. Thorne was able to find five of the eight lug nuts. B.D. Short, owner of Short’s who had three of the vehicles stolen from his business, purchased three lug nuts to secure the tire and put the van back in service.

The five-year-olds wrote the thank you notes to Sgt. Thorne, the police department and Short before heading off to their trip at Hafer Park in Edmond. The thank you notes were accompanied with a dozen donuts each.
