Stork’s Nest in Langston hosting breastfeeding seminar

The Stork’s Nest in Langston is inviting interested mothers in breastfeeding to join them for a seminar this Saturday.

The class will be presented by Rachel Nelson at the Salters Chapel AME Church, which is located at 119 E. Washington St. in Langston.

Nelson is a 26-year-old wife and mother of an almost two-year-old nursing toddler. She is originally from Norfolk, Virginia and currently serves in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Nelson began her breastfeeding journey after being sent to the hospital with a rare medical condition at 29 weeks pregnant. She remained in the hospital being monitored day and night for three weeks before having an emergency C-Section at 32 weeks pregnant. After birthing her first child, Gabrielle, her daughter was immediately sent to the NICU for 24 days before being released. During this time, Nelson was exclusively pumping while Gabrielle was tube-fed. It was at this point when Rachel discovered an interest in breastfeeding, and after the first latch, it became her passion.

Nelson is currently the owner of Mama to Mama LLC in Oklahoma where her desire is to help and leave an impact on every mama she meets. She is a Certified Lactation Counselor and an administrator in the “Breastfeeding Support Group for Black Moms” Facebook page where she does weekly “Tit Talks” for the 70,000+ members.

She is also a board member for the Coalition of Oklahoma Breastfeeding Advocates (COBA). Under the COBA organization, Rachel serves as the Chair of “Baby Cafe”, a group in Oklahoma where moms can bring their babies and receive lactation help or just bond with other nursing moms.

Nelson’s goal is to reach nursing moms everywhere and provide them with evidence-based facts to make their breastfeeding journey a success.
