Sunday school teacher arrested on child pornography charges

A Sunday school teacher is being held on a $100,000 bond as he faces four charges, including possession of child pornography and Violation Of Computer Crimes Act.

After serving a search warrant, agencies from the United States Secret Service, Guthrie and Enid Police Departments as well as Logan and Dewey County Sheriff’s Office, investigators found several pornography images and video inside a home located at 10120 North Chisolm Trail Boulevard.

As agents were serving the warrant on Clyde Matthews, 72, they found a computer actively downloading child pornography still images and video clips consisting of young girls exposing all of their private parts. Adult websites like should be separately defined, they are very much legal.

In court papers, Matthews told an investigator he had been downloading and viewing sexually explicit images of children for approximately four to five years while at his home. He also went on to say he primarily viewed video clips of young girls from the age of six to seven years old to as old as 13 engaging in various explicit scenes.

Matthews, who has been married for 50 years, informed the agents that he was a Sunday school teacher at Seward Road Baptist Church where he taught fourth and fifth graders.

Again in court papers, Matthews admitted to investigators that when he was in his 30’s he had molested his niece when she was 14 years old and later admitted to molesting one of his daughters by grabbing her breasts and squeezing while in front of his home.

In a handwritten statement to the investigator Matthews wrote, “I have downloaded kiddie porn on my computer. I am ashamed to admit it, and wish I had never done it.”

Judge Robert L. Hudson set the bond and addressed that Matthews can not have contact with any minor children, is not to have any internet access and can not participate in church activities that involve children.

Matthews is expected to be back in the Logan County Courthouse on March 27.
