Suspect says she does not remember stabbing victim

A Langston University student says she does not recall stabbing a male student last week with a pair of scissors. Now, the suspect is facing an assault with a dangerous weapon charge.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Abria Zoryia Brooks, 20, of Spencer, Okla. told a Langston police officer that she was the one who stabbed the male victim with a pair of scissors, but later said she did not recall doing it.

Emergency crews responded to the Centennial Apartments on campus just after 6:30 p.m. after a student walked into the University’s police department stating someone had just been stabbed.

Upon arriving to the apartment, the officer said he noticed food and trash had been thrown all over the breeze way. Once inside the apartment he saw a male victim covered in blood.

The 22-year-old victim was flown to a Oklahoma City hospital, but before being air lifted he told the officer a light-skinned girl across the hallway had stabbed him.

Brooks, along with two other females, were removed from an apartment across the hallway. That is when Brooks told the officer her and the victim had gotten into an altercation.

After being transported to the police station, Brooks said her and her roommates were cleaning their door when the victim started to throw hot food at them, according to the court document.

Brooks said the victim and his roommates began yelling at them about wanting to fight her boyfriend, who was not present at the time of the incident. This is when Brooks says she went into her apartment and got a pair of scissors to protect her and her roommates.

The affidavit goes on to read that Brooks said the victim became angry, punched her in the face and pulled her inside his apartment. After falling off an ironing board, Brooks says the victim took the scissors away from her and dragged her into the bathroom. Afterwards, she says she was able to break free and ran back to her apartment.

Brooks was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and posted a $5,000 bond last Thursday. She’s expected back in court on June 22 at 9 a.m.
