The three suspects involved in the Logan County animal cruelty case have been charged with a total of 61 counts, including 30 felony counts of animal cruelty, 30 misdemeanor counts of animal abandonment, and one felony conspiracy count.

On May 27, thirty cats were found abandoned in crates at the intersection of Industrial Road and Bachus Road. The cats ranged in age from newborns to adults.

The following day Brook Wanzer, Jason Wanzer, and Keegan Wanzer were taken into custody. Investigators were able to identify a vehicle using FLOCK cameras and then proceeded to the address associated with the vehicle, where they made contact with the suspects.

During questioning by investigators, the Wanzers admitted to abandoning the cats because they felt overwhelmed by the number of animals they were caring for.

According to the Logan County District Attorney’s Office, the suspects reported the illegal dumping of the animals to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office in an attempt to conceal their crime.

The suspects initially made a $5,000 bond on May 30. However, after their formal arraignment on Tuesday, their bond was increased to $100,000, and all three were re-booked into the Logan County Jail. As of Thursday morning, they remain in custody.

If found guilty, they could face a prison term of up to 10 years for the conspiracy charge, up to five years for each animal cruelty charge, and up to one year for each count of animal abandonment, along with possible fines.
