Last week I mentioned that the start date for construction on the new bridge at Broadway had been delayed by the contractor until July 23. At this time, that date remains firm.
However, prior to construction, Plains Pipeline will be relocating a utility which is in conflict with the construction site. This means Broadway will be temporarily closed just north of Camp Road July 11
through July 13.
A detour around the work site for those traveling south on Broadway will be to turn east onto Triplett, go one mile to Bryant, south on Bryant to Seward, then west on Seward back to Broadway. An alternative route is to go west on Prairie Grove to Santa Fe, south on Santa Fe to Seward, then east back to Broadway.
If traveling north, go east at Seward to Bryant, north on Bryant to Triplett, and west on Triplett to Broadway. The alternative is to go west on Seward to Santa Fe, north on Santa Fe to Prairie Grove, then
east on Prairie Grove back to Broadway. Motorists may also prefer to travel I-35 or Hwy 74.
The District 1 road crew are continuing to improve Seward Road east and west of Broadway in preparation for rerouting traffic for up to six months while bridge construction is underway.
We are hauling rock from Pawnee at the rate of four to six loads a day to apply to roads which will serve as the detour route. The rock is trucked straight from the quarry to the job site. Plans are also
underway to perform chemical stabilization on sandy areas of Seward just east of Broadway.
Other work performed in District 1 this week included repair on two low water crossings; one on Meridian north of Waterloo and the other on MacArthur north of Charter Oak., installation of stop and yield signs at various locations, mowing, tree removal and trimming on multiple areas of right-of-way and culvert installation. We are also working to resolve a hydraulic issue with the asphalt laydown machine which we will be using on a road repair in Cedar Valley.
District 1 employees will be saw cutting Broadway in preparation for the work Plains Pipeline will be performing July 11-13, so please exercise caution in areas where they will be operating. If you have
questions about these or other activities underway within the district, you are welcome to contact me at 282.3581 or 831-0837.
