The Simple Life Center: A community hub for art, learning, and fun

Since its inception in 2007, The Simple Life Center has been a cornerstone of the West Guthrie community, dedicated to fostering positive character-building and Christian values through a variety of free, educational programs. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the Center relies on the passion and dedication of its volunteers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Under the leadership of Director Linda Bryan, The Simple Life Center maintains a steadfast mission: “to offer a safe, friendly learning environment that promotes positive character-building, Christian values and standards, is low-tech, and fosters building a stronger community!” This mission is reflected in the Center’s commitment to offering all classes and events free of charge, ensuring accessibility for everyone.

One of the Center’s standout programs is the Art Class, which caters to participants from ages 6 to adults. Held every Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., the class is led by Art Instructor Lydia Gates. The class recently completed two murals and three-dimensional fish art pieces, which were donated to the First Christian Church of Guthrie for their Vacation Bible School program. Gates emphasizes the diverse learning opportunities available: “Every week is a learning experience,” she says, noting the use of recycled and uncommon media, as well as educational trips to local art galleries and other establishments.

With summer in full swing, the Center is buzzing with excitement for upcoming events. A highlight is the “Modern” Garden Party and Jump Rope Competition, set for Thursday, June 20th at 10:30 a.m. in the Apothecary Garden. This event promises a day of fun with activities and prizes, open to all ages. Another community event is already in the works for July, ensuring there’s always something to look forward to at The Simple Life Center.

For those interested in participating in classes or events, or in volunteering their talents as instructors, Linda Bryan encourages you to get in touch. “We welcome everyone to join us in building a stronger community,” Bryan says. Donations are also gratefully accepted to support the Center’s community service projects.
