Three candidates file for District 2 County Commissioner; Goodman files for State Rep.

The three-day filing period is now over for state-wide offices and county offices, including for the offices of sheriff, court clerk, county clerk, and district two county commissioner.

For Logan County, all candidates who filed are registered Republicans and will be decided before the general election in November.

Devereaux will begin a third term, while Cole will begin her fifth term.

For Logan County, Sheriff Damon Devereaux and County Clerk Troy Cole seek re-election and did not draw an opponent and will assume a new four-year term beginning in 2025.

Court Clerk Cheryl Smith, who has held the position since 2016, filed as did Jannis Crews DeLisa, who is currently the Court Clerk for the City of Crescent.

The office for District 2 Logan County Commissioners will once again have three candidates, including current commissioner Charlie Meadows, Floyd Coffman, and Mike Fergason.

Meadows and Coffman, along with Wayne Elder, were candidates last summer to fill an unexpired term. Meadows collected nearly half of the 1,120 votes to win the seat.

The primary election is set for June 18, 2024.

For the District 2 race, if a candidate does not receive at least 50% of the vote in June, a runoff election between the two top candidates will occur on August 27, 2024.

Former County Commissioner Files for State Representative

State Representative (District 38) John Pfeiffer filed his paperwork on day one of filing as he looks to serve one final two-year term after first being elected in 2014. He currently serves as the Deputy Floor Leader.

State legislators can serve a maximum of 12 years in either the House or Senate or a combination of service in both chambers.

Marven Goodman, the former District 1 County Commissioner who served two terms for Logan County, filed his paperwork on the third and final day at the State Capitol.

District 31 State Representative Collin Duel won a second term after not drawing an opponent.

“It is truly an honor and privilege to continue working on behalf of our community,” Duel said in a social media post. “Your voices matter, and I am here to ensure they are heard in the legislative process. Please know that my door is always open. Thank you for your continued trust and support!”

District 33 State Representative John Talley, who has been in office since 2018, filed for another term. Molly Jenkins also filed to run for the seat.

District 32 State Representative Kevin Wallace, who chairs the House Appropriations and Budget Committee, filed to seek one final two-year term after first being elected in 2014.

Wallace drew two opponents including Jason Shilling and Jim Shaw.
