A devastating house fire in southeast Logan County claimed the lives of three people early Saturday morning, including a child, in a tragic scene that unfolded near a fire station.
The blaze broke out shortly after 6 a.m. at a home located in the 6900 block of Terrill Lane, near Midwest Boulevard and Camp Road, just a mile from the Sooner Fire Department.
Emergency crews from Sooner Fire arrived quickly and immediately called for assistance from multiple nearby county departments due to the severity of the fire and the need for water.
Authorities say three people—two adult males and one child—managed to escape the burning home. Sadly, three others, reportedly two women and a child, were unable to get out and perished inside.
Firefighters made an initial attempt to enter the home but were forced to retreat due to the intensity of the flames and deteriorating conditions inside. During the operation, two firefighters were injured after an apparent explosion knocked them backward. One of them sustained a leg injury and was transported to an Oklahoma City hospital for treatment.
By 9 a.m., investigators with the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office had arrived at the scene to take over the investigation. Deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office also responded and assisted with the response.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. The identities of the victims were not released at the scene.
