Tragedy avoided in near drowning incident of child

A Logan County family is counting their blessings this holiday after a near drowning of a child on Friday afternoon.

near drowningJust after 1:30 p.m., the Logan County Sheriff’s deputies, Oak Cliff Fire Rescue and EMSA arrived quickly to the 9100 block of Case Lane for a possible drowning of a two-year-old.

A holiday get together including swimming was taking place with the female child and her mother. Chief Deputy Richard Stephens said the child was resuscitated quickly and responded well to treatment.

The child was transported by EMSA to Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.

“This incident is a clear example of even when you are doing everything right, accidents can happen,” Stephens said.

“The emergency response systems worked perfectly today. All of the first responders and the family members on scene were very relieved that this potential tragedy was averted today.”
