United Way Kickoff 2014 — Members of the Guthrie High School Student Council unveil the 2014 United Way of Logan County Goal as Sereniah Breland (background) announces the goal at the Campaign Kickoff Tuesday.

This year’s Campaign Chair, Sereniah Breland, announced the 2014 campaign goal of $202,014. Steve Gentling, United Way President opened the celebration with a special thanks to the planning committee and the Senior Student Council from Guthrie High School who were key players in setting up the outside venue for this celebration.

Gentling also reflected on the “Pacesetter Campaign” as being like the NFL Preseason games — a pre campaign that sets the tone and spirit for the regular campaign. Josh Tucker, Pacesetter Campaign Chair announced that the 13 organizations participating in the Pacesetter Campaign raised over $55,000. Breland, recognized as continuing the tradition of a visionary leader who energizes the campaign as its Chair, spoke of the giving environment she has found in Logan County, provided some insights into the scriptural basis of charity and concluding with the unveiling of the Campaign goal.

Gentling noted that the United Way of Logan County acts as a conduit, directing campaign contributions to 12 specific programs in 10 partner agencies. He congratulated the staff and volunteers in those agencies for providing the services that “positively impacted approximately one out of every four citizens of Logan County last year.” He recognized the volunteer United Way Board members who donate “thousands of hours in analyzing the needs in our communities, identifying partner agencies to address those needs, generating resources to fund programs and providing accountability in the use of those funds”.

He noted, “The United Way of Logan County is dedicated to making our communities stronger, with a focus on community preparedness, strong families, successful kids and independent adults. Your contribution is a “difference maker” in each one of these categories!”
