United Way of Logan County tops Goal

Campaign Chair, Sereniah Breland, announced another successful United Way campaign at “Celebration”, Tuesday night at the Masonic Temple.  With a room full of volunteers, donors and advocates, Sereniah, with the help of board members, unveiled the final campaign total of $205,242, smashing the goal of $212,014 and setting a new record of giving for the United Way of Logan County.

Just before the unveiling, Krystal Flury, United Way Vice President recognized special award winners.  The City of Guthrie won the “Corporate Spirit Award”, raising almost $12,000.  Additional recognition was given to the city’s Park Department, which had 100% participation and an average donation of almost $400.  The “Outstanding Campaign Coordinator Award” was presented to Ed Stanton for leading the City of Crescent to 100% participation of every city employee.  Josh Tucker was recognized as “Volunteer of the Year” for his leadership in the Pacesetter campaign, great involvement as a board member, and positive support of the United Way in his capacity as Administrator at Mercy Hospital.  In recognition of her loyal contributions for many years, her mentoring of board members, and her active role as a volunteer doing “whatever the United Way needed”, Eddie Lou Halsey was given the “Kenneth Mitchell Lifetime Achievement Award”.

Steve Gentling, United Way President, also recognized the great work that the 10 partner agencies do in providing services and assistance in the specific programs that are funded through United Way. “This is where the rubber meets the road and they do a wonderful job of helping those in need throughout our county!”  Steve also recognized the leadership of the businesses and organizations that were a part of the “100% Club”. “When 100% of the employees of any organization give to the United Way you know it is because of the leadership of that organization and the culture of caring and giving that the leadership creates.  Thank you to those employees and thank you to the leaders of these organizations!” The “100% Club” was: City of Crescent, Environmental Management, F&M Bank, God’s Food Bank, Guthrie Vision Source, InterBank and Logan Community Services.

Gentling closed the Celebration with a quote from Ann Godwin, “One of the most powerful decisions you can make in your life is to do something for someone who does not have the power or the resources to return the favor.” Gentling concluded “Many, many  individuals and organizations have made that decision in their support of the United Way of Logan County, in support of those in need. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.”
