Guthrie City Manager Leroy Alsup announced his upcoming retirement Tuesday evening at the city council meeting.
Alsup handed out a typed letter with his signature at the bottom to council members to give them notice of his retirement effective April 28, 2023.
“I have worked for municipal government since 1979, with roughly thirty of those years in municipal management position, the last five as City Manager of Guthrie,” Alsup said who started with Guthrie in Feb. 6, 2017.
Alsup already is the longest serving city manager for the state’s first capitol.
“The past five years that I have lived and worked in Guthrie have been incredible,” Alsup said in his letter.
Alsup was showered with praise throughout the community with his announcement.
“Leroy, the amount of positivity and growth you have brought and supported in Guthrie during your time here has been the greatest in well over a decade,” local business owner Menecca Gibbs said.
Guthrie Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Brittany Timmons echoed the same sentiments.
“Although I’m very saddened by this news, I’m happy for you too. I’m glad we will have you for one more year. I have learned so much from you and I am honored to work alongside you. You are a wonderful person and City Manager. What you have done and continue to do for Guthrie is simply amazing. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed. Thank you for everything you have done for me and the Chamber. Here’s to another great year!
Local business owner Debbie Prather also shared her gratitude.
“Thank you for all you have done for our community. Your support has meant a lot to us and our business. You will be hard to replace. Much luck for your future endeavors!”
Alsup says he’s not sure what the next chapter in his life will be but is hopeful to continue to live in Guthrie.
