For the second straight year the Guthrie Police Department is hosting Cops On Doughnut Shops to benefit Special Olympics at Missy’s Donuts & Bakery.
The event is set for Saturday, May 5 at both Missy’s locations (1122 N. Wentz and 2323 E. Noble) from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Officers will be on top of the buildings to help create awareness and raising money for the Special Olympics in Oklahoma. Special Olympics is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Oklahoma benefits 11,600 athletes and is supported by over 1,700 volunteer coaches and thousands of sponsors, donors and volunteers conducting more than 140 sports competitions and training clinics every year.
Off. Clark Edelen with the Guthrie Police Department is again leading the event, which helped raised $2,440 last year.
Displays will include the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad, OSBI crime scene vehicle and mobile command post, The Logan County SRT, Air Evac helicopter and various other patrol cars. Pistol Pete will make an appearance from 10-11. 99.7 Hank FM will be live from 7-9.
“We will have several items to raffle off including a hammock, free food from Braum’s and Pizza Hut as well as a gift card to CashSaver Food Stores,” Edelen said.
T Shirts will also be available for donations of $25 dollars or more while supplies last. This event is just one of many that the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Torch Run conducts throughout the year to help support Special Olympics and it’s athletes.
