VIDEO: Driver leads police in early morning pursuit

Updated on Jan. 31, 2022 — Alton Joseph Springer, 23, of Edmond was charged with eluding a peace officer, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and transporting an open container of intoxicating beverage.

He was given a $20,000 bond and a court date of March 24.


A driver was arrested early Saturday morning after leading Guthrie police officers in a vehicle pursuit down Division St. and ending in downtown.

An officer found a person, who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel, inside a four-door, silver vehicle parked in the median with a turn signal near the intersection of Sooner Road and Division St.

The driver took off, but stopped and took off again resulting in a northbound pursuit beginning in the 4500 block of S. Division St just after 5:30 a.m.

With speeds reaching 68 mph, the driver nearly struck an oncoming vehicle at Springer St.

After striking a trash can, the driver made his way into a banking parking lot in the 100 block of N. Division St. He was taken into custody with no further incident.

During a search of the vehicle, Officers found several drug paraphernalia items.

The driver was believed to have been under the influence and was taken to the hospital for a blood test.

There were no injuries reported at the scene.
