Five individuals were transported to area hospitals Thursday evening following a series of violent assaults in Guthrie.
The incident began around 7:53 p.m. when Guthrie dispatch received a call reporting an assault involving a female victim in the 800 block of Sooner Court. Guthrie paramedics and police officers responded to the scene, where officers discovered two additional victims with injuries caused by blunt force and a sharp object.
According to the victims, the suspect, identified as Cody Tonelis, 30, had assaulted them using a pipe and a knife before fleeing the area on foot.
Guthrie Police, with assistance from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and Logan County Emergency Management, swiftly established a perimeter to locate and contain the suspect.
While first responders were treating the injured on Sooner Court, another assault was reported just two blocks away in the 1000 block of Pinebrook Drive. The victim in this incident also identified Tonelis as the attacker and stated that he had fled westward.
As additional reports came in of Tonelis attempting to break into homes in the area, police spotted him in the 800 block of North Eastridge Drive. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended the suspect in a wooded area east of North Eastridge Drive. A knife was recovered from Tonelis during the arrest.
Tonelis was taken to Logan County Mercy Hospital for a medical evaluation but managed to flee on foot, while handcuffed, from two police officers. He was quickly apprehended and returned to custody.
One of the victims is reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
