Like many Guthrian’s who move away, Gene Stephenson made a special trip back to Guthrie for the celebration of 89er’s Week.
Stephenson built the Wichita State University baseball program from the ground up, taking the Shockers to seven College World Series and the 1989 NCAA championship.
Stephenson, who was born in Guthrie and was inducted into the Guthrie High School Hall of Fame in 1994.
Stephenson coached at Wichita State from 1978 to 2013 and amassed a 1,798-647-3 record.
