Video: Guthrie Fire Department promotes Lausen, Nivens as officers

Surrounded by family and fellow firefighters, two firefighters were promoted to officers for the Guthrie Fire Department. They were recognized at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Dane Lausen has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Michael Nivens has been promoted to the rank Captain.

“Both of these individuals are very deserving of their new positions and we wish them the very best,” Fire Chief Eric Harlow said.

Lausen, a Guthrie native, has been with the department for eight years.

“Dane has excelled as a firefighter,” Harlow said of Lausen who has served as an EMS instructor and recently obtained his Advanced EMT license.

Nivens joined the department in 2003 before serving for the Coyle and Spencer fire departments.

In his 15 years at GFD, Nivens has served as an EMS instructor and an Intermediate EMT.

Harlow was quick to point out Nivens’ knowledge for the department’s heavy equipment.

Both were officially pinned with their new badges by family members, including Nivens’ great grandfather, Delbert Maker, who is a retired Guthrie Assistant Fire Chief.

“I know (both of) you will do very well in your new positions and I’m extremely proud of the work you guys and everybody that works with us does for this city,” Harlow concluded with.
