Police officers must be ready at any given time when responding to a call. They must depend on their training for the several scenarios that may come into play. Guthrie police officers took on the rugged chore of pepper spray training last week.

Five officers were sprayed in the face with the burning mace. If that was not enough, the officers had to combat two suspects and handcuff another suspect while battling their nose, eyes and mouth burning.

Lt. Mike Loya with the Guthrie Police Department overlooked the training with classroom education held inside the armory building. Afterwards, the officers made their way outside to a staged scene surrounded by caution tape to represent a residential yard.

The training covered several areas, including communication, combating suspects after being sprayed, handcuffing one suspect and notifying dispatch.

Guthrie News Page was on hand for the training and captured these scenes.
