Video: Rally sends Special Jays off to the 2018 Special Olympics

A pep rally was formed outside of Guthrie Upper Elementary School on Wednesday morning. The sound of music, kids and motorcycles filled the event with excitement for Guthrie’s Special Olympians as they made their way to Stillwater.

From GUES, the escort traveled by Guthrie High School, Fogarty Elementary and Central Elementary where more signs and support from teachers, students and staff members were on display.

At the Junior High the atmosphere was similar with students lined up outside as the band played the school fight song. Students greeted the participants as they got on the bus with high five’s and words of encouragement. Video: Junior High Send Off | High School Send Off

The Special Olympians were sent off with a police escort to Interstate 35 and from there the Territorial Riders helped the Jays arrive for the 2018 Special Olympics Oklahoma Summer Games, which kicked off Wednesday and runs through Friday.

More than 4,600 athletes and 1,500 coaches from across Oklahoma are in Stillwater for the event.
