A female driver is looking at serious charges after she was spotted in a stolen vehicle and damaged two police cars on Monday. The suspect was later tased and taken into custody on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 12:20 p.m., Lt. Mark Bruning and Detective Jason Hamilton with the Guthrie Police Department spotted a stolen vehicle on Highway 33 near Interstate 35. Once the driver saw the police SUV, she took off at a high rate of speed and began heading east on SH-33.
The driver attempted to make a left-hand turn onto College Ave., but missed the street and drove onto the shoulder of the highway. As she attempted to get back on the roadway, she collided (t-bone) with the police unit and again took off. This time west on SH-33 and eventually south on I-35.
The driver exited the highway at mile marker 153 (south Guthrie exit) and onto S. Division Street.
Police officers, along with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, picked up the pursuit. The driver was swerving in and out traffic and eventually side swiped a county unit in the 5000 block of S. Division Street.
Upon impact, the stolen vehicle left the roadway and came to a stop.
The female was tased and taken into custody. She was escorted to Mercy Hospital Logan County for medical attention, where she was treated and released and transported to the Logan County Jail.
At this time, the suspect’s name has not been released.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is working the accident.
There were no injuries reported at either scene, but the two police officers were expected to be medically checked out at the hospital.
