Weston Bohard can be found helping teachers at Charter Oak Elementary with some of their after-school duties. The third grader was awarded for his efforts on Monday night as he was named the Guthrie Public Schools Student of the Month.
“I have seen him go into classrooms at the end of the day and help teachers sweep or pick up bits of paper,” Charter Oak teacher Dixie Shaffer said in her nomination letter.
Weston, who enjoys hunting, fishing and playing football, is not asked to clean sinks or water fountains, or set classroom trash bags into the hallway. He simply notices he can do it and does it without a second thought.
“I see
him helping others often, stepping up any time he
sees a way he can, helping others as they travel in the hallway and always
greets teachers and peers with a smile,” Shaffer added.
Weston was recognized at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting.
Each month Guthrie Public Schools and Foundation Insurance team up to find the school district’s student of the month.
Although there are no specific grade requirements, the student must be in good-standing in the classroom to be eligible. Overall, the district says they are searching for students who go above and beyond in the way they treat their peers and teachers.
Blake Wimsey with Foundation Insurance congratulated Weston and presented him with a$65 gift certificate to Stacy’s Place.
