Voters elect Damon Devereaux new sheriff for Logan County

Logan County voters elected a new sheriff on Tuesday

Former Guthrie Police Chief Damon Devereaux led the entire night as the polling numbers were being released and defeated incumbent Jim Bauman by 357 votes.

Results are not official until certified by the Logan County Election Board, which is expected to be completed on Friday.

“I am humbled to be your next Sheriff of Logan County,” Devereaux said. “It still seems surreal.”

“I cannot thank all of my family and supporters enough! You kept me going!

Devereaux, who won 14 of the 22 precincts, collected 2,085 votes, or 54.68 percent, while Bauman brought in 1,728 votes, or 45.32 percent.

Devereaux, who takes office on Jan. 1, captured 60 percent of his votes (1,263) from polling places within the Guthrie city limits.
