More details are now being revealed following a shooting along a Logan County highway that killed one man. Two men were reported to be fighting before the shooting took place.

Jeffrey Pennington, 42, was shot in the chest and died on the scene following a road side fight.

According to law officials, Pennington was driving, along with two passengers, to get his belongings from his ex-girlfriend Stacey Kennedy from a storage unit in Guthrie. In that process, Pennington received a call from Kennedy stating the truck she was riding in was not running properly and was driving back to Stillwater.

Pennington turned around to head to Stillwater on Highway 33. Along the way, Pennington spotted the red truck that Kennedy was in parked on the highway just east of Post Road. Pennington pulled over and exited the vehicle.

Once Pennington exited, he was met by Christopher Wade Sheldon, 37, the driver of the truck and now boyfriend of Kennedy. The report says Sheldon punched Pennington in the face and began fighting with Pennington for several minutes. Then, Sheldon reportedly pulled out a pistol and shot Pennington, got back in the truck, along with Kennedy, and drove off.

Two witnesses driving by saw the two men fighting and saw Sheldon pull the pistol and shoot Pennington.

A crime scene agent located a bullet casing in the middle of the highway.

A search warrant on Sheldon’s Stillwater home revealed an ammunition box inside the bedroom. The truck was impounded pending a search warrant, but in clear sight an empty pistol holster could be seen.

A warrant was issued on Tuesday for the arrest of Sheldon, who is facing a first-degree manslaughter charge. Investigators continue to search for Sheldon.
