Watch: Bluejays host Duncan in home opener — “Rice Bowl” headlines Jelsma Stadium matchup

The Guthrie Bluejays return to Jelsma Stadium on Friday night for their 2025 home opener, taking on the Duncan Demons in what’s being dubbed the “Rice Bowl.”

Both teams will feature quarterbacks with the last name Rice. For Guthrie, junior Daelon Rice is stepping into a larger role after sharing snaps a season ago and helping guide the Bluejays to a state championship game appearance. On the other side, Duncan counters with four-year starter Sawyer Rice, a proven dual-threat quarterback who has been the engine of the Demons’ offense.

Guthrie (0-1) looks to bounce back after falling 38-13 in their season opener to Class 4A powerhouse Tuttle on Aug. 28. The Jays enter the game ranked No. 5 in the latest High School Huddle rankings and are eager to get back on track in front of their home crowd.

Duncan (2-0) comes in riding momentum after a pair of close wins over Class 4A programs, Bridge Creek (30-29) and Cache (26-23).

The Bluejays have historically had the upper hand in the series, winning six straight over Duncan and 12 of the last 13 meetings. Adding to the atmosphere, the game will be the first under Jelsma Stadium’s brand-new LED lighting system.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with full coverage available on GNP TV. The pregame show begins at 6:30 p.m.
