The Guthrie Bluejays will take the field at Jelsma Stadium for the second straight week as they host the Blanchard Lions on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m. on GNP TV.
Guthrie is coming off a dominant 42-10 win over Duncan in the home opener. The Bluejays put together a complete performance in all three phases of the game — forcing multiple turnovers on defense, turning those into touchdowns on offense, and adding a 70-plus yard punt return on special teams.
Blanchard, a Class 4A program, enters at 1-1 after falling in a high-scoring 63-40 contest against Newcastle last week. The Lions opened their season with a 34-14 victory over Noble.
The Lions are led by new head coach Lance Manning, who returns to the high school sidelines after previous coaching stops at Deer Creek, Norman North, and Edmond Santa Fe.
On the field, junior quarterback Noah Smith is a proven playmaker. He threw for over 200 yards in last year’s 33-24 win over Guthrie. His top target, Cole Watkins, will be a main focus among the Lions’ receivers.
Friday’s matchup will mark Blanchard’s first-ever trip to “The Rock.” The two programs met for the first time last season in Blanchard, with the Lions coming out on top.
Friday night promises an intriguing contrast in styles — Guthrie’s physical defense against Blanchard’s aerial attack — as both teams look to move above .500 early in the season.
