The Guthrie Bluejays return to the postseason spotlight Friday night as they host the Bishop McGuinness Fighting Irish in a first-round playoff clash inside Jelsma Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with the Guthrie News Page pregame show beginning at 6:30.
Guthrie (8-2) earned the No. 2 seed out of District 5A-2 after finishing with a 6-1 district mark. The Bluejays’ only setbacks came against Class 4A’s top-ranked Tuttle and Class 5A’s No. 1 Carl Albert. Guthrie closed the regular season on a high note, averaging more than 50 points per game in their final three contests.
Bishop McGuinness (9-1) appeared to be on track for a perfect regular season before falling in their finale to Lawton MacArthur. That defeat created a three-way tie atop District 5A-1 between McGuinness, MacArthur, and Newcastle, with the Irish landing the third seed based on district points — sending them on the road to Guthrie.
This will mark the 25th meeting between the two storied programs, which were longtime district rivals. McGuinness brings a veteran offensive line and a balanced offensive attack, while Guthrie looks to continue its late-season offensive surge led by quarterback Daelon Rice and a host of senior playmakers.
The High School Huddle has named this matchup the Game of the Week in Oklahoma high school football.
The winner advances to the second round to face either Coweta or Claremore next Friday night.
