Watch: Bluejays travel to Lawton for regular season finale with playoff stakes on the line

The Guthrie Bluejays will close out the regular season Friday night in Lawton, taking on the Wolverines inside Cameron Stadium. Guthrie will look to bounce back from last week’s battle with top-ranked Carl Albert and finish strong heading into the playoffs.

The Bluejays enter the matchup with a 7-2 record (5-1 in district play), while Lawton stands at 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the district. This will mark just the second-ever meeting between the two storied programs.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Guthrie News Page.

While Guthrie has already secured a playoff spot, their final position — and where they’ll play next week — depends on how things unfold across the district Friday night.

Carl Albert (9-0, 6-0, +80) can clinch the district title with a win over Altus (8-1, 5-1, +74). If so, Guthrie would host a first-round playoff game for the third straight season. Altus, however, can claim the crown with a four-point win or any victory combined with a Guthrie loss to Lawton (4-5, 2-4, minus-23). In that scenario, Guthrie would be on the road for the first round.

The Bluejays’ first-round playoff opponent will also depend on the outcome of games in District 5A-2, where McGuinness (9-0, 5-0, +70), Lawton MacArthur (7-2, 4-1, +51), and Newcastle (6-3, 4-1, +44) all remain in contention for the top three spots.

McGuinness will win their district with a victory over MacArthur. Newcastle can take the top spot with a win over Southeast (6-3, 2-3, minus-19) and if MacArthur defeats McGuinness by a margin large enough to close the point gap. MacArthur, meanwhile, could finish anywhere from first to third depending on Friday’s results.

For Guthrie, the goal is simple — finish the regular season with win number eight and carry momentum into the postseason.
