The Guthrie Bluejays are on the road for Week 9, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Guthrie (7-1, 5-0) travels to Midwest City on Friday night to face the top-ranked Carl Albert Titans (8-0, 5-0) with the District 5A-2 championship hanging in the balance.
It’s the kind of late-season matchup that defines playoff positioning — and pride.
Both teams enter the contest undefeated in district play and boasting some of the state’s most talented rosters. Guthrie has leaned on a dominant defense and a consistent running game to reach this point, while Carl Albert continues to showcase its trademark under head coach Mike Dunn.
The Bluejays know they’ll need a complete effort to slow down the Titans, who have won three consecutive state championships and eight of the past nine titles. But Guthrie has plenty of motivation and momentum of its own, coming off another strong district win that extended their winning streak to seven.
Equally as impressive, Carl Albert has won 47 consecutive games and, with a win on Friday, would tie Wagoner for the second-longest streak. Bixby holds that distinction with 58 straight wins.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Carl Albert High School, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on GNP TV. Join the broadcast team for live play-by-play, sideline updates, and analysis as the Bluejays battle for district supremacy.
