Watch: Guthrie travels to OKC looking to secure playoff spot

The Guthrie Bluejays are on the road this week with a trip to Oklahoma City and take on the Northwest Classen Knights. A win on Thursday, and the Bluejays are back in the playoffs for the 14-straight season.

Guthrie, who will be big favorites on the scoreboard, is looking to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season to their rival Carl Albert.

Meanwhile, Northwest is in danger of possibly going 0-10 in the season as the program continues to find their identity.

The Knights have managed to score 54 points all season with 27 of those coming back in a week three loss to Capitol Hill. In their last four games, Northwest has been shut-out in three and have only scored eight points.

On offense, Northwest Classen is a young team with only senior starters, three juniors six sophomores and one freshmen. The lone senior is the starting quarterback in Korlton Wells.

In this series, Guthrie has won all five previous meetings dating back to 1996.

Northwest Classen finishes their season by hosting Piedmont next week and traveling to Guymon in week 10.

Class 5A

Time now to take a look at some of the key games in Class 5A football this evening.

The biggest match-up comes in District 5A-1 with a battle between Duncan and Ardmore.

Both teams, who are 7-0, have scored an average of 38 points and allowed an average of seven points.

Duncan will face their biggest challenge in Ardmore and the following two weeks with Lawton Mac and Altus.

Games in District 5A-2 will feature, of course, Guthrie here at Northwest Classen, Piedmont at McGuinness, Woodward is Carl Albert and Lawton Eisenhower is in Guymon.

Taking a look at district standings, Carl Albert and McGuinness stand at the top with 4-0 records. Next is Guthrie at 3-1 followed by both Piedmont and Woodward with 2-2 records. Lawton Eisnehower is next at 1-3 and both Guymon and Northwest Classen at 0-4.

Carl Albert appears will be locked into either the first or second place finish in the district with their win last week over the Bluejays. Bishop McGuinness is still eyeing a district title with both Carl Albert and Guthrie still on their upcoming schedule. Guthrie is now playing to finish second in the district by winning their final three games of the season.

The final playoff spot appears is coming down to Piedmont and Woodward. The Wildcats and Boomers could possibly decide that in a week 10 meeting in Piedmont.
