A piece of heavy construction equipment fell off a trailer on Wentz Street near Noble Avenue (State Highway 33) on Wednesday afternoon, briefly blocking traffic and causing damage to nearby infrastructure.
The incident occurred just before 3:30 p.m. when the machinery, which was partially loaded, came off the trailer. Additional personnel from the company responded to the scene and were able to drive the machine out of the roadway. A wrecker moved the trailer, and the roadway was cleared and reopened by 3:50 p.m.
Northbound traffic was temporarily rerouted during the incident. No injuries were reported.
According to an eyewitness at a nearby grocery store, the machinery rolled forward into the cab before rolling backward off the trailer. The witness also claimed that the equipment did not appear to be chained down and suggested the parking or emergency brake may not have been engaged.
A utility pole and multiple state highway signs were damaged during the incident.
The exact cause of the equipment’s shift and fall remains under review.
