Watch: Jeff Jordan selected GPS District Teacher of the Year

Guthrie Public Schools honored all their site teachers of the year, announced the elementary and secondary teachers of the year and the district teacher of the year during Monday night’s Board of Education meeting.

Guthrie High School English teacher Jeff Jordan was named the 2018-19 District Teacher of the Year. Jordan, who was also named the Secondary Teacher of the Year, has been in the school district for the last three years in his 18-year teaching career.

“I want to say thank you,” Jordan said standing next to Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson and to the over flow board room.

“I’m not any different from the rest of you who were nominated. It’s a pleasure to serve along side all of you.”

GHS Principal Chris LeGrande says Jordan’s goal is to have students love the writing process.

“Lot of students will go into his classroom and initially are very reluctant to write. (Jordan’s style) is non-threatening. Instead of taking a red pen and marking up their essays and the work they have published, he invites them to make mistakes and learn from their mistakes.”

Fogarty Elementary’s third grade teacher Amanda Perring was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year.

“Amanda Perring has a very high level of student engagement,” Fogarty Principal Marsha Todd said Perring, who is in her eighth year in the school district.
