Junior High teacher Shurlyn Maltz says Peyton Hayes is a rare gem of an eighth grader who lives the definition of humility as she walks the halls of the Junior High.
Peyton was recognized at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting as the January Student of the Month.
“Whether it is being a strong friend to someone who is undergoing a tremendous loss or planning how to honor a classmate who passed unexpectedly, she does so in a humble but very genuine manner,” Maltz said in her recommendation letter.
Peyton is an active member on the GJHS Student Council.
“I recently stepped around her working in the hall way on the floor after school as she created a bulletin board full of information for our students but also a section highlighting others who were ‘in the news’ or honored as our previous students of the month,” Maltz added.
Peyton says she enjoys school and baking.
Each month Guthrie Public Schools and Foundation Insurance team up to find the school district’s student of the month.
Although there are no specific grade requirements, the student must be in good-standing in the classroom to be eligible. Overall, the district says they are searching for students who go above and beyond in the way they treat their peers and teachers.
Blake Wimsey with Foundation Insurance congratulated Peyton and presented her with a$65 gift certificate to Stacy’s Place.
