On Monday morning, Vaughan was sworn in at the Logan County Courthouse by District Judge Jason Reese. A small gathering attended the ceremony, including Duel’s wife, Pam.
Judge Vaughan has served as Special Judge for Logan and Payne counties for the past three years.
Prior to taking the bench in 2022, she worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Logan County and practiced law privately in Guthrie. She also retired as a JAG officer after serving 21 years in the Air National Guard.
“Judge Duel was a friend and mentor to me for nearly 15 years,” Vaughan said. “I will carry with me his legacy of fairness and justice as I move into this position and complete the rest of his term.”
Vaughan assumes the powers and jurisdiction of Associate District Judge effective immediately.
The appointment was recommended by Reese and approved through an order by John Canavan Jr., Presiding Judge of the North Central Administrative District.
Vaughan will continue performing her duties as the county’s Special Judge while also serving as Associate District Judge.
She has also recently announced her candidacy for the position. Related article: Diane Vaughan announces candidacy for Logan County Associate District Judge
