Watch: Wesley Silvis signs with UCO Wrestling program

Guthrie High School alum Wesley Silvis officially signed with the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) wrestling program. The signing ceremony took place on May 9 in the GHS library, witnessed by family, coaches, teammates, and friends.

Wesley, whose parents are Shawn and Lyndsey Silvis, is continuing a family tradition. His father, Shawn, along with coaches Jadon Davenport and Jeromy Davenport, also wrestled at UCO.

“He is following those footsteps at the best Division II program in the country,” said Jadon Davenport.

Wesley, who also recently graduated from Meridian Technology Center, had an impressive high school career, coming close to breaking the school record for the most pins in a season.

He finished the season with a 24-8 record and a fourth place State finish in 190 pounds. His efforts were instrumental in helping Guthrie achieve back-to-back state wrestling dual tournament appearances. Despite battling injuries – once told he would not wrestle again – throughout his high school career, Wesley’s perseverance and skill stood out.

UCO’s wrestling program is renowned, having secured two consecutive national championships, bringing their total to 17 in the program’s history.

Wesley’s signing with UCO marks a significant milestone in his wrestling career, and his achievements have set high expectations for his future contributions to the prestigious UCO wrestling team.
