Guthrie News Page has learned more about Gerald Perry, Jr., who was arrested last week for alleged sex crimes on mentally challenged patients at Westview Living Center.

Perry, 60, faces five felony counts including, first degree rape, three counts of oral sodomy and rape by instrumentation. However, it turns it out it is not Perry’s first run-in with the law.

Far from it.

Guthrie News Page learned that Perry was arrested for a 1990 homicide in Detroit, Michigan, that was later reduced to manslaughter. He served jail time for the crime after the case was closed in 1993.

Perry has also found himself in trouble with fraud, drugs and failure to appear in Michigan.

Just last November (2011) Perry is accused of pointing a gun at an individual after a verbal altercation at his Guthrie home located on East Springer. He was taken into custody for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. That case is still pending in the courts.

According to the affidavit, Perry had worked at Westview since February 11, 2008.

Guthrie News Page attempted to reach Westview several times by phone and in person on Monday, but was unable to reach administration. However, an administrator told KFOR that they do criminal background checks on all employees.

Perry appeared in front of Special Judge R.L. Hert Jr. in the Logan County Courthouse via video conference. The judge listed the charges where Perry said, “I understand the accusations.”

He is scheduled to appear again on May 24 at 2:00. Perry failed to appear in the court room on April 26 for his prior Logan County charge.

He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond. If convicted, Perry could face life in prison without parole.

  1. Ya so how did Happy Jack get a job there in the first place again? BS that they did a background check! PUHLEEZE! I would sue the pants off that place if it was my relative that was raped by this creeper!

  2. He was arrested in 2011 (6 months ago) here in Guthrie while employed at Westview. The case is still pending, but it does show why he was a prior felon.

  3. This State is ridiculous! Why would you only check one state for those types of jobs? Working with elderly, children or disabled you should have to have a better check than that! I could see if it was a construction job or something – even then it would be wise to check their entire background. Makes no sense!
