Winter storm set to impact Guthrie with snow, dangerous wind chills

Guthrie residents are preparing for a significant winter storm set to move into the area overnight, bringing snow, icy conditions, and dangerously cold wind chills.

According to Logan County Emergency Manager Steven Haga, the storm is expected to begin between midnight and 6 a.m. Tuesday. The system will start with a wintry mix in the morning before transitioning into snow by mid-morning or early afternoon. Forecast models indicate Guthrie could see between 2 to 3 inches of snowfall.

Beyond the accumulation, Haga warns of hazardous conditions due to extreme cold. Wind chills are expected to plummet to -20 degrees by Tuesday afternoon and evening, creating a high risk of frostbite for those exposed to the elements for more than 15 to 20 minutes.

Residents are urged to take precautions, including limiting outdoor exposure, dressing in layers, and ensuring pets and vulnerable individuals are kept warm. Travel conditions may become treacherous, and local officials advise staying off the roads if possible.

Stay tuned for updates as the storm progresses.
