The Oklahoma Sports Heritage Museum has been part of Guthrie and Oklahoma for 30 years. To begin the special year, they will feature two World Series champions who got their start in Oklahoma high school baseball.
The museum will feature Texas Rangers World Series players Andrew Heaney and Jon Gray on Saturday, February 3.
Heaney, a stand-out from Putnam City High School, was drafted out of high school in 2009, but signed to play college baseball at Oklahoma State.
While at OSU, Heaney led all NCAA pitchers with 140 strikeouts in his junior season in 2012 and was named Big 12 Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Year. Heaney was a unanimous All-America selection, being named a first-team All-American by several baseball outlets. Later that year he was drafted by the Miami Marlins.
Gray, a Chandler High School product, played for the Oklahoma Sooners. In high school, Gray was named the All-City Player of the Year and was selected to the All-State team.
Gray got his collegiate start at Eastern Oklahoma (Wilburton, Okla.), and was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2011 but elected to play for the Sooners where he earned many accolades, including National Pitcher of the Year.
Heaney and Gray helped lead the Rangers to their first-ever World Series championship, and both will be in Guthrie.
Also expected to attend are Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins, former Dodger Jim Gentile, and the family of the late great Oklahoma stand-out Ryan Minor.
The all-inclusive event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the museum located at 315 W. Oklahoma Ave.
The cost is $30 for adults and $15 for children which includes a barbeque lunch.
