Wrestlers lead day one of Carl Albert Tournament

The Guthrie Wrestling program is off to a solid 5-0 dual record start, but are eyeing their first tournament win of the season.

The BlueJays lead day one of the Carl Albert Tournament and will have 10 wrestlers participating on day two. Guthrie will send six to the championship semifinals on Saturday beginning at 11:00 am.

Alex Nelson, Timothy O’Connor, Bryan Dutton, Devin Bilyeu and John Davison each won their matches on Friday. Meanwhile, Landry Chappell and Connor Howard both went 1-0, but Howard will sit out on Saturday due to an injury. Chappell received a first round bye.

Jack O’Connor’s BlueJays took second at the Duncan Tournament last month.

Perennial wrestling power, Altus stands in at second place in the team standings.
