Oklahoma Attorney General launches airline complaint form

Oklahoma residents can now submit complaints about airline carriers and ticket agents directly to the office of Attorney General Gentner Drummond through a newly launched online form. This initiative comes amid a surge in consumer grievances regarding flight disruptions, lack of refunds, and lost or delayed luggage.

Attorney General Drummond recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), granting him the authority to review and resolve airline consumer complaints for Oklahoma residents. Historically managed by the federal government, this agreement aims to streamline how the Office of the Attorney General and the DOT will handle complaints and identify violations of federal aviation consumer protection requirements.

Drummond highlighted the importance of air travel to both individual lives and the national economy, emphasizing that complaints from Oklahomans will now receive more direct attention. “Airline passengers deserve to be treated fairly and to receive the services for which they pay,” Drummond stated. “Our hope is that this airline complaint form will improve ease for Oklahomans to lodge a complaint directly with the Attorney General’s office. I am committed to protecting all Oklahomans from deceptive and prohibited conduct.”

The DOT is set to launch a modernized system for handling air-travel service complaints later this month, aiming to enhance the customer experience for the tens of thousands of consumers who file complaints annually. The Attorney General’s Office will soon provide information on how to submit complaints directly to the DOT.

The agreement between Oklahoma and the DOT is a two-year arrangement, with the possibility of extension in two-year intervals. Drummond has previously advocated for stronger protections for air travelers and called on Congress to authorize state attorneys general to enforce federal consumer protection laws in the airline industry.

Last year, over 939 million passengers traveled by air in the U.S., highlighting the significant impact of this initiative on a large number of consumers.
