The 2012 Citizens Police Academy came to an end Saturday afternoon after a morning on the gun range with the Guthrie Police Department.
The eight week course covered topics such as hiring and training process, investigations, responding to calls, accident investigations, dispatch, crime scene investigations and firearms.
The group of 15 citizens met Thursday evening for three-hour sessions with Police Chief Damon Devereaux and Officer Jonathan Williams. The citizens will be recognized at the city council meeting on March 6th.
This was the second year of the academy and the next Citizens Police Academy is set for early 2013.
The City of Guthrie also conducts a Citizen’s Government Academy where residents learn the inner workings of local government. The city is currently putting plans together to host the first Citizens Fire Academy with the Guthrie Fire Department.
