It’s the oldest race in the state and Guthrie runner’s Walker Cross and Jonathan Ogan each had good showings with a top five and top 10 finish.
The BlueJays ran in the Cowboy Jamboree, in Stillwater, last weekend and finished third as a team in the 5A-4A race. Taking the top spot was Glendale with a team low 53 points followed by Deer Creek’s 65 and Guthrie’s 106.
For the BlueJays, it was once again Walker Cross leading the way with a fourth place finish with a time of 16:42 and was 19 seconds behind the overall winner from the out-of-state runner from Glendale.
Not too far behind Walker was Jonathan Ogan and his time of 16:46 in the three-mile run.
Walker and Ogan were the second and third Oklahoman’s to finish the race as two-time 5A state champion Taler Buck, of Deer Creek, crossed with a time of 16:32 to place third overall.
Hunter Sallee just missed out on the top 10 with a 14th place finish when he ran a 17:37. Others to compete for Guthrie was Taylor Self, Evan Watts, Brandon Greenlee and Brent Jenkins.
As the season winds down, Guthrie will prepare for the OBU and Suburban Conference (both in Shawnee) runs before regionals which is set for October 22nd. State is the following week (in Edmond) on October 29th.
