The Guthrie BlueJay defense has been one of the tops in Class 5A and the high expectations are expected to return in 2010. Those expectations will be aided by Landry Chappell and Kentrell Brothers.
Vype Magazine recognized the two Jays on their 5A All Vype Preseason defensive team. Deer Creek is the only other school to have two players to represent the defense.
Brothers, an incoming senior, led the state with 17 sacks, in addition to his 15 sacks his sophomore season. He collected 95 stops to go along with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Chappell, who is preparing for his junior season, finished last season with 177 that ranked him seventh in the entire state. Chappell came on as a freshmen and played an important role, but his role was majorly increased last season.
“This season you can expect me to work harder than I ever have in the previous three seasons,” Brothers told the magazine. “We have a hard-working team that plays with heart. Expect a battle every game.”
