The fish have been caught and filleted; the hushpuppies, cole slaw and baked beans are all planned; and the oil is ready for the propane heaters —– it must be FISH FRY time again for the Guthrie Lions Club.
Lion Barry Anderson, chief frymaster this year announced that the annual event is set for Friday, August 9 at the American Legion Building in downtown Guthrie. The meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A $7 donation is requested.
“ALL of the proceeds from the fish fry go to support scholarships for Guthrie High School seniors,” says Lion Kenneth Mitchell. “We are proud of the fact that for the last five years we have been able to award two $1,000 scholarships annually to deserving students and we certainly hope to be able to accomplish that again this year.”
Lions Club President, Cheryl Tartar, also noted, “the annual project starts in May with an enthusiastic fishing trip of club members and guests to Lake Texoma. This trip results in the catching of lots of great tasting fish, the creation of lots of special memories and of course the embellishment of lots of fish stories.”
Lion Lamar Wade, who usually brings a grandson with him on the fishing trip says, “we always catch fish and we always have a good time, but clearly, the real winners from this project are the scholarship recipients.”
Join your friends and neighbors for lunch or dinner on Friday August 9 and help support this scholarship fund.
