The Guthrie Lady Jays softball program is currently in a quiet mode, but come late July the girls are hoping to return with a new outlook for the 2010 season.
Head coach Brian Jackson returns for his second season after a 12 and 20 campaign that saw his schedule loaded with top-notch teams in the state and in a competitive conference.
One of the first obstacle’s Jackson and the Lady Jays will need to over come when they return to camp is the graduating departure of Kacey Acker, who is now playing at Southern Nazerene University.
“We are going to be working hard to fill Kacey Acker’s shoes,” Jackson said. “Several girls have really improved their swings, but it is still a work in progress overall.”
The program has wrapped up their summer league and are now playing on travel teams for the remainder of the month. Jackson played numerous of young players last season and is hoping that will pay off this year with the experience returning.
Scrimmages will be August 5th and 6th with the first game of the season set for August 10th.
