The Guthrie Lady Jays golf team completed their second and final day of the Class 5A State Tournament and although a team title did not come their way they improved one spot from day one.
Head coach Mike Longstreth’s Lady Jays finished sixth overall, with a team score of 742, after falling to seventh place after day one at Silverhorn Golf Course.
Duncan won their third straight championship with a team score of 668. McAlester, who finished third overall, won the 5A academic championship.
Leading the charge for Guthrie was sophomore McCandren Lewis who shot a 78 for a 157 total after a first round 79. Lewis performance was fifth best individually.
Altus’ Megan Blonien won her second straight title by shooting a 147.
Overall, all five Lady Jays improved their scores on day two and as a team improved a whopping 33 shots. Senior Kacey Acker shot an 86 after an opening 89, Jasmine Linville carded a 101 after a 108, Kelsey Walker had the biggest turnaround with a 17 shot improvement with a 97 and a 114 on day one, and Linzi Thomas improved five strokes and shot a 100 on the final day.
