Gov. Mary Fallin signed an official Proclamation acknowledging Guthrie as the official city of the ‘89er Celebration for the State of Oklahoma. This proclamation was presented recently by Jerry Webster, adjutant, American Legion LeBron Post 58, to Mayor Mark Spradlin which signaled the official kick off of the preparation for ‘89er Week, April 15-19.
“We have the pleasure and the honor of having the governor of the state of Oklahoma as our grand marshal,” Spradlin said. “We are looking forward to having her in the great city of Guthrie for our 89er Week celebration festivities.”
A chuck wagon feast kicks off the celebration on Tuesday, April 15 at 5 p.m. at the Logan County fairgrounds with food, entertainment and live and silent auctions.
A family focused carnival comes to town Wednesday, April 16 thru Saturday, April 19 with over 70 craft and food vendors lining the streets of downtown Guthrie.
A youth all-star baseball game featuring teams from Edmond and Guthrie face off on Thursday, April 17 at 5 p.m. at Squires Field in downtown Guthrie, followed by the traditional Old Timer Ball Game with period uniforms and equipment.
The baseball movie “Field of Dreams” will be shown on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma Sports Museum at 315 West Oklahoma Avenue.
Activities for Friday night include a “Big Wheels 4 Youth race” from 5-6 p.m.; the “Gassers and Geezer” classic car show on Oklahoma Avenue from 6-9 p.m. featuring over 200 classic cars; a battle of the bands contest from 6-10 p.m. and the annual 89er Days rodeo Friday and Saturday nights from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Logan County fairgrounds.
The second annual “Stake Your Claim” 5K run is set for Saturday, April 19 from 10-11:30 a.m. just before the “Largest Parade in Oklahoma” marches through downtown Guthrie at noon.
